Flora's New Friend
Flora sat quietly under the big oak tree at the park, clutching her favorite sketchbook against her bright yellow dress. The sun felt warm on her shoulders as she waited for a colorful bird to land nearby. Everything was peaceful and perfect in her quiet little corner of the world.
Suddenly, a boy with messy brown hair and a green shirt sat down on a nearby bench. He pulled out a sketchbook just like hers! Flora felt her heart go thump-thump. She wanted to say hello, but her voice felt stuck deep inside her throat as she peeked from behind the tree.
Then, Flora saw something happen. The boy reached for a crayon, and his favorite bright blue one rolled away, landing right by her shoes. He looked so sad searching the grass. Flora took a deep breath, picked up the crayon, and walked over. "I think you dropped this," she said softly.
The boy’s face lit up with a huge smile. "Thank you! I'm Leo," he said, showing her his drawing of a blue jay. Flora's eyes widened because she was drawing the exact same thing! Soon, they were sitting side-by-side, sharing colors and stories about their favorite birds.
By the time the sun began to set, Flora wasn't feeling shy at all. She realized that being kind was the best way to make a wonderful new friend. They promised to meet again tomorrow under the very same tree. It was the start of a very special friendship.
